Recommendations
|
| 1. How do the Recommendations Work? |
They work very simply. All users can recommend songs and all users can approve and disapprove of these
Recommendations.
There are two ways to make a Recommendation.
Way 1.
-You search for the Song you want to recommend.
-You click 'recommend this song' on the Song's Page.
-Done! You have made a recommendation and approved of it.
Way 2.
-You click 'Make Recommendation' in the menue at the top of the Page.
-You Enter the Artistname and Songtitle.
-Thats it! You have made a recommendation and approved of it.
If the song isn't already in the database, then it will be added automatically.
You will automatically approve of every Recommendation you make.
|
| 2. what is approve/disapprove? |
By approving or disapproving of a recommendation you simply state, that you like or dislike the recommended song.
The Sum of all approvals minus all disapprovals will then be displayed as the Sum and can help others to find out, if the recommendation is of any interest to them.
|
| 3. when should i approve or disapprove? |
It is recommended that you listen to a song before you state your opinion about it. Especially if you never heard it before (duh..).
By approving of a recommendation you increase the chances of getting similar recommendations in the future (These Recommendations will have the highest Personal Score). This also works the other way round.
If you're getting very high Personal Scores for recommendations that you don't like, disapprove of it! These kind of recommendations will have lower Scores in the future.
Don't disapprove of a recommendation just because you don't like the user who recommended it. It will decrease the accuracy of your Personal Scores.
Don't be afraid to disapprove. Disapproving doesn't have to mean you hate that song. It simply means that you dont want to get these kind of recommendations.
|
| 4. what is the personal score? |
The Personal Score for a Recommendation can indicate, how likely it is that you will like that song.
It is calculated from all approvals and disapprovals and all the personal factors.
|
| 5. what is the personal factor? |
The Personal Factor can describe the music taste relation between two users. The higher the Factor, the bigger the similarity of their music taste.
How it works:
The default Factor for all users is 1. It is used, when both Users don't have any dis/approvals in common.
for example:
If User1 and User2 approve of the same Recommendation, their Factor is increased by 1.
That means they share the Factor 2.
another example:
Factor = 1 (default)
Recommendation1: User1 approves, User2 approves
Recommendation2: User1 approves, User2 approves
Recommendation3: User1 approves, User2 disapproves
Recommendation4: User1 disapproves, User2 disapproves
Factor = Factor +1 +1 -1 +1 = 3
Only if both users disagree (one approves, the other one disaproves) the factor is decreased.
|
| 6. how is the personal score calculated? |
The Personal Score is the Sum of all Approvals of every User multiplied by each User's Factor.
for example:
These users have approved or disapproved of a recommendation:
User1: approved
User2: approved
User3: disapproved
User4: approved
User5: approved
The Sum of all approvals is: 1 +1 -1 +1 +1 = 3
You share the following personal factors with these Users:
User1: 5
User2: 1
User3: -10
User4: 25
User5: -3
(If the Factor is negative, the Approval will be ignored.)
Your Personal Score for this Recommendation is: | (1*5) | +(1*1) | +(1*-10*0) | +(1*25) | +(1*-3*0) | = | | = | 5 | +1 | +0 | +25 | +0 | = 31 |
|
| 7. what should i do if someone recommends a song that doesn't exist? |
The best thing is to ignore it.
Don't approve or disapprove of it, as this will affect your personal factor for all other users who dis/approve of it. It would only make your future Personal Scores less accurate.
|
| 8. what are neglected recommendations? |
Recommendations that haven't been paid much attention to, get a second chance in the category 'Neglected Recommendations'.
Recommendations with a low number of approvals and disapprovals are found in this category. Some of these songs may be hard to get. Others may have been overlooked.
|
| 9. what is my approval/disapproval ratio? |
Your ratio is the number of approvals divided by the number of disapprovals.
You should try to approve of just as many songs as you disapprove. An ideal Ratio would be 1.00.
If you approve of too many songs and your Ratio rises above 5, you will get blocked from approving until you disapprove of enough songs to even out the ratio.
If you disapprove of too many songs and your Ratio declines below 0.2, you will get blocked from disapproving until you approve of enough songs to even out the ratio.
